About This Rekindle Fire Training Simulator – Boarded House
Boarded and vacant structures create some of the most deceptive size-up conditions in the fire service. Plywood-covered windows and doors block the visual cues — smoke color, volume, and location — that crews normally rely on to read a fire, so hidden fire can burn undetected in wall voids and concealed spaces long after the exterior appears quiet. This scenario focuses on rekindle and reflash: a fire that was believed knocked down or under control re-ignites after crews have begun overhaul or even after the scene was thought clear. Use it to practice thermal imaging camera checks for hidden extension, forcible entry through boarded openings, secondary search considerations in unoccupied structures, and the incident command decisions around re-committing crews to a structure once thought safe. Free and browser-based — works on desktop and mobile, no software installation required.
